Saigon Cinnamon

All cinnamon comes from evergreen trees in the Cinnamomum genus, however, not all cinnamon is equal in flavor. Saigon cinnamon packs a bigger punch that our regular cassia cinnamon.

Saigon cinnamon is the strongest form of cinnamon and should not be mistaken for cassia cinnamon, milder vairants found in most American households. Saigon cinnamon is bolder with both a more potent flavor and aroma, inducing a warm sensation when ingested. It is also sweeter and more intense than other varieties due the spice’s naturally high concentration of cinnamaldehyde.

Named after its place of origin, Saigon cinnamon is also referred to as Vietnamese cinnamon or Vietnamese cassia. It is harvested from the bark of the Saigon cinnamon tree (cassia tree) and is ground into fine powder. Saigon cinnamon’s stronger bite makes it a great seasoning for baked goods and home cooking. In Vietnamese cuisine, the Saigon cinnamon bark is the primary ingredient in Pho, a popular soup. Add a bit to coffee, oatmeal, French toast and pancake batter to enjoy an extra punch; plus, you’ve kicked up your breakfast’s health benefits a notch.

Saigon cinnamon is considered a superfood, high in anti-oxidants. It is also seen as having numerous medicinal benefits including:

  • Type 2 diabetes – benefits blood glucose and insulin levels
  • Lowers cholesterol and risk of heart disease
  • Anti-inflammatory – known to have positive affects on arthritis, asthma and cancer
  • Digestive aid helping to regulate inflammatory bowel syndrome (IBS)
