Lebanese Couscous

Lebanese Couscous originated in North Africa and was once considered a delicacy, but now is very common and is available throughout the world. Lebanese Couscous is different than traditional couscous because it is larger, about the size of a pea when compared to traditional couscous that is the size of a peppercorn. It is made by forming pasta-like wheat dough into pea-sized balls. Lebanese Couscous, also known as “pearl couscous” is actually a type of semolina pasta, has a smoother, chewier and sturdier consistency, and can be used in recipes calling for rice, pasta, orzo , or other whole grain. It is very easy and convenient to cook. Allow it to simmer in salted water or a flavored liquid, until tender or desired consistency. You can also cover Lebanese Couscous with boiling water and soak it until tender, then drain excess water.

The mild, nutty flavor of Mount Hope Wholesale Lebanese Couscous has a full-bodied texture and easily absorbs flavors, herbs, and spices. It enhances the flavor in soups, stews, salads, and perfectly pairs with stir fry, roasted vegetables, sweet potatoes, casseroles, meatloaf, fried foods, cheese dishes, and seafood. It is a perfect side dish, too. Simply add olive oil or melted butter and season with salt, nut mixes, lemon zest, and fresh or dried herbs.
