Bulgur Wheat
Bulgur wheat is most commonly known as the main ingredient in tabbouleh salad. It is a whole-grain wheat product that has been cracked and then par-cooked and dried before packaging. Bulgur is sometimes mistakenly referred to as wheat berries, but they are not the same. Both products are made from hard red wheat, but wheat berries are whole and uncooked and cannot be substituted for bulgur wheat. Because it’s precooked, bulgur only needs to soak in hot water for 10 to 15 minutes before it’s ready to eat or use.
Mount Hope bulk bulgur is low in fat and naturally high in fiber. It has a nutty, chewy texture that’s pleasant with simple preparation, but it also makes a great canvas for heavier flavors. Like rice or pasta, it absorbs other flavors well, making it a wonderful addition to salads. Bulgur can be used as a substitute for couscous, quinoa, barley or rice in almost any dish. It is a delicious with a stir-fry or curry or prepared in a pilaf, and it has a shorter cooking time than many other grains. Vegan cooks often use bulgur to add texture and heartiness to vegan burgers.
Our wholesale bulgur wheat is also a great source of plant protein and dietary fiber – both important for heart health.
