Light Agave Nectar
Agave nectar is available in light or dark varieties and is a delectable sugar substitute in many drinks and dishes. Our Light Agave Nectar is a sweet addition to hot and cold beverages or baked desserts and doesn’t change the flavor profile. It has a pleasant and mild essence and works well in delicate dishes.
Considered a natural sweetener, agave nectar comes from many different species of agave plants, most notably the Agave salmiana and Agave tequilana. An Agave plant must grow between seven and fourteen years before it can be cultivated to make the agave nectar. First, the leaves are removed, then farmers extract the juice from the plant’s core, also known as the pina.
Once filtered, the juice is then heated to produce the simple sugars, such as fructose, that give agave its sweet and tasteless flavor. Once the juice is ready it is concentrated into a syrup.
Agave is most widely known as an ingredient in tequila and margarita’s but it has many other uses. It can be substituted for sugar or honey in coffee, tea, and other hot beverages.
The nectar quickly dissolves which makes it perfect for cold drinks such as lemonade or ice tea in place of simple syrup. You can top french toast with it instead of using the high sugar content maple syrup or replace the honey and sugar in many baked goods like banana bread.
