Steel Cut Oats

Steel Cut Oats are one of the healthiest grains on this planet and a favorite amongst hot breakfast enthusiasts. They make a delightfully satisfying, full-bodied hot cereal with an appealing thick and creamy texture when cooked. Customizable with a variety of add-in recipes, steel cut oats have a mild nutty flavor all on their own.

A great source of fiber, steel cut oats also contain important minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants.

  • They act as an anti-inflammatory.
  • Using oats in a lotion or bath helps reduce skin itching and inflammation.
  • They are an important grain for digestive health and are thought to relieve constipation.
  • Oats lower cholesterol and control blood sugar.
  • Because they are nutritious and filling, they aid in and are beneficial to weight loss.

Steel cut oats are different from rolled oats. Regular rolled oats are traditionally steamed before being flattened. But steel cut means they are left whole and cut into tiny little pieces on a steel buhr mill. The result is an oat that takes a longer amount of time to cook but is worth the wait as they have a great flavor profile.

As oatmeal for breakfast these oats hold up well with peanut butter, fresh fruits and berries, and raw honey or real maple syrup. The current fad of overnight oats is best made with steel cut oats. They won’t turn to mush after sitting in a liquid or milk overnight. Other than breakfast, there are a variety of uses for steel cut oats.

At Mount Hope Wholesale, we offer five pound bags for kitchens that will use these oats sparingly, and 25 and 50 pound sacks for operations that rely on them more heavily. In addition, Mount Hope also offers gluten-free oats. Oats are naturally gluten free, but are usually processed in a faciility on shared equipment with other grains that do contain gluten. If you’re concerned about a stronger gluten sensitivity, avoid these, as they are not certifiec gluten free.
